There are 19 applicants to replace Phoenix City Councilwoman Maria Baier, who resigned after Gov. Jan Brewer named her the new state land commissioner.
The deadline to apply for the job was June 25. The council is expected to interview all applicants and appoint an interim replacement Tuesday.
Those interested in running in the District 3 special election, tentatively scheduled for Nov. 3, have until Saturday to declare their candidacy with the City Clerk’s Office.
At least 14 of the 19 applicants have informed the city they may run in the fall race to complete Baier’s term, which ends in early 2012.
