Gov. Jan Brewer named former Senate President John Greene as chairman of the State Board of Equalization.

Greene served in the Senate with Brewer while she was majority whip, and later served as director of the Arizona Department of Insurance under former Gov. Fife Symington. He replaces retiring Chairman Harold Scott.

“John brings to the board years of relevant experience in both the public and private sectors and possesses an impressive and broad base of knowledge in numerous key areas including taxation, real estate, legislation, regulation and government relations,” Brewer said in a press release.

Most recently, Greene served as counsel to Buchalter Nemer PLC. He also served for several years as a partner with the law firm of Cummings, McClorey, Davis & Acho PLC, and with Hahn Howard & Greene LLP. Greene has served as counsel for numerous other companies and firms, including the Dial Corporation, Greyhound Corporation, New York Life Insurance Company, the Manhattan Life Insurance Company and Snell & Wilmer. He has also worked in private practice with his own firm.
