And the 2009 Leaders of the Year winners are…

Fifteen leaders from the public and private sectors, representing business, elected and non-profit arenas will be recognized for their service and vision during the Arizona Capitol Times third annual Leaders of the Year in Public Policy Awards Luncheon on Sept. 29 at the Wyndham in downtown Phoenix.

“This event was created to shine a spotlight on leadership and excellence in Arizona public policy,” said Ginger Lamb, vice president and publisher. “This year’s honorees were nominated by their peers for this honor and all have had a positive impact on the state.”

2009 honorees:

Jason Bagley, Intel Corporation, business
Mayor Phil Gordon, transportation
Project Citizen, Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education, education
Patrick J. Cunningham, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, environment
Frank Fairbanks, City of Phoenix, government
Tom Kelly, Schaller Anderson, an Aetna Company, health care
Rep. Ray Barnes, legislative
A.J. “Jack” Pfister, Salt River Project, lifetime achievement
Goldwater Institute, policy development
Roger Vanderpool, Arizona Department of Public Safety, public safety
Kris Jacober, Arizona Association for Foster & Adoptive Parents, social services
Cox Communications, technology
Kerry Martin, volunteerism
Betty Rhodes, unsung hero

A committee comprised of several community leaders selected the honorees in the categories of arts and humanities, business, development, education, environmental, government, health care, legislative, public safety, social services, technology, transportation, and unsung hero. In addition, awards for volunteerism and Lifetime Achievement will be presented posthumously.

The awards luncheon and presentation begins at 11:15 a.m. with networking. The program follows at 11:45 a.m.
