About Legislative District 8

District 8 is a borderline majority-minority district in Pinal and Gila Counties. Pinal County communities include Oracle and San Manuel in the southeastern part of the county and portions of San Tan Valley, Casa Grande, Florence, Eloy and Coolidge in the central part of the county. In southern Gila County the district includes Globe and Miami.

Minorities represent slightly more than 50 percent of the total population and 46.6 percent of the voting age population. The district also contains a prison population of approximately 19,000. (Note: convicted felons are not eligible to vote; however, they are included in census counts.)

District 8 includes parts of former legislative districts 5 in Gila County and 23 in Pinal County.
