Age: 28. (b 05/05/84, Casa Grande, AZ).

Arizona since: Birth.

Occupation: Systems specialist, 1 year; academic adviser, Apollo Group, 2 years; addictions treatment counselor, CCA, 1.6 years; student instructor, King Chavez Parks College Day Program, 1 year.

Marital: Engaged (Tera).

Children: 1.

Religious preference: Did not respond.

Education: M.A., curriculum and instruction with ESL, Univ of Phoenix, 2010; M.A., adult education and training, Univ of Phoenix, 2009; B.A., sociology, MSU, 2006.

Political experience: Did not respond.

Memberships: Did not respond.

Interests: Working in my woodshop, model railroading, working/writing on my fantasy book series (“Empires Awakening” on Amazon), civil and infrastructure design, materials engineering studies, theoretical physics, astronomy, camping and hiking and researching renewable technologies.

Political influence: One of the most influential leaders politically would have to be Abraham Lincoln. When he led the U.S. during the Civil War, he had more fortitude to fight the hard battles than anyone today. He raised taxes to fund a war and infrastructure development, he instituted the draft to create an army of the Republic facing down mass protests in the process. He was not afraid to take steps to ensure the survival of the U.S. over the pettiness of the singular states in pursuing laws of inequality.

Job creation measures: I believe our two greatest focuses should be our education system and developing our infrastructure. We need to bring in new ideas and re-structure our education system to create the most skilled population of the world, and we need to create an environment where the foundation of our state is second to nowhere else on Earth.

Top Issues: I will focus on education innovation and reform and on infrastructure development. There is no greater task than providing a foundation for our future to develop from. Without ease of movement or a society of skilled and creative individuals, we will not be able to have the economy of tomorrow.

Prop 100 sales tax extension: I am reluctantly in favor. I would seek an alternative path to replace the sales tax as it takes money out of the hard working families who need it most. Also, the funds generated from the sales tax are being stolen for other uses – which needs to be stopped. As a state and as citizens we should understand that any missed opportunity to provide the best education available only sets up our future generations to be less competitive and more impoverished than the last.

Illegal immigration: I believe enforcement of current limitations on employment is important, and reforming the system for those coming in to the country. Immigration is supposed to be a federal responsibility, but I believe the state has some measures it is able to take that can be both understanding of the realities and reasons of immigration and enforce laws on those committing wrong.

Background & experience: I have lived through some of the toughest situations that our country can offer. I have seen the hurdles and hopelessness that the very poorest of America struggle with every day. I can honestly say that it is my task to not provide welfare, but to fight against hurdles in the way of people who can and would succeed if given the opportunity.

Pro-life / pro-choice: Abortion falls within the realm of personal choices – it is legal, and was very much none of anyone’s business but that of the woman until Social Darwinism came into being. I believe that the choice belongs to women to decide – people in America are allowed to make decisions others do not agree with.

One last thing: Voters should understand that I am a candidate that seeks to drop barriers to success. Investing in our citizens so they have the ingenuity and know-how to create the next iPhone or technology that will revolutionize our world demands work. I know far too many families who work hard every day to only never get ahead; these families want to see and know they will be successful if they keep working hard. As a legislator, I intend to make sure they can. Family values are built on a strong economy that allows families to grow.

Age: 55. (12/20/56, Phoenix, AZ).

Arizona since: Birth..

Occupation: Educator (business, accounting, law), Apache Junction Unified School District, since 1983; camp director, Camp Geronimo, Grand Canyon Council, Boy Scouts of America, staff since 1982.

Marital: Married (Roxanne, bookkeeper).

Children: 6.

Religious preference: LDS.

Political experience: Apache Junction, city councilman, 2008-2012 and 1991-1995; mayor, Apache Junction, 1995-2007.

Memberships: District vice chair, Superstition District; Grand Canyon Council; Boy Scouts of America.

Interests: Scouting, amateur radio operator (KI7LP), marathoner, Duncan YoYo champion.

Political influence: I have been a student of the life of Abraham Lincoln. I believe he demonstrated incredible leadership and management skills that have only recently been formally identified and studied.

Job creation measures: I believe we need to consider re-implementing some of the economic development tools that we have lost or eliminated, such as tax increment financing. I would support tax reform that would make our taxes more transparent, more fair, and hopefully lower rates at the same time.

Top Issues: Equipping our state with economic development tools that will make us more competitive with other states as far as bringing business and jobs into our state, and education, working to get resources into the classroom that directly benefit our students.

Prop 100 sales tax extension: I favor extending the sales tax, as I believe the economy will not have sufficiently recovered by then to be able to balance the budget without making detrimental cuts to our state programs, such as freeway construction and maintenance and education.

Illegal immigration: I support the principles outlined in the Utah Compact: federal solutions with comprehensive immigration reform, support of law enforcement in dealing with all those who are here illegally who commit crimes, and consideration of families and the human element in dealing with people who are here illegally. While I support securing our border, I do not believe that the problem will be solved through enforcement only.

Background & experience: I believe there are only 10 representatives currently who have experience at the municipal level of government and understand the effects of the state Legislature’s actions on local government. Also, as a classroom teacher of business for 31 years, I have a somewhat unique perspective on our state educational system and the important role education plays in training our future workforce.

Pro-life / pro-choice: I am pro-life.

One last thing: As an educator, I have also been a student, and I realize that I don’t always have the right answers. I will be willing to look at any ideas that will help Arizona be a stronger, more competitive state. I am also an Eagle Scout.

(Mail: PO Box 13101, Mesa, AZ 85212)

Age: 43. (09/27/68, Long Beach, CA).

Arizona since: 2004.

Occupation: Doula coordinator at South Phoenix Healthy Start; management, US Airways; small business owner, Doula Services; author, Christ Centered Childbirth; doula coordinator/program director, Ashland Community Hospital, 1997-2004.

Marital: Widowed.

Children: 3.

Religious preference: Christian.

Education: B.S., human communications, ASU, expected summer 2012.

Political experience: Precinct committeeman, state committeeman and state delegate; co-founder, Greater Phoenix Tea Party.

Interests: Genealogy, photography, travel.

Political influence: State Representative Carl Seel, who taught me about the inner workings of the Legislature beginning in 2008 while we worked together on pro-life issues. He has continued to teach and inspire me.

Job creation measures: Fewer regulations and lower taxes for business here in Arizona.

Top Issues: The illegal immigration problem and improving the educational system here in Arizona.

Prop 100 sales tax extension: Oppose. Arizona needs to first take care of the massive waste within AHCCCS, by conducting an audit and implementing simple measures to reduce fraud and misuse of the system. Additionally, Arizona spends approximately $2.6 billion in entitlements given to people here illegally. That money should be returned to the people of this state, rather than taxing them to further fund non-citizens.

Illegal immigration: Until we remove the incentives that cause people to bypass the legal system and be rewarded for unlawful entry, they will continue to do so. We do need to secure the border, but that alone will not solve the problem. We must remove the financial motivation to come here illegally.

Background & experience: I have found myself in leadership positions throughout my working background, and I am prepared to enter the Legislature ready to lead and represent our district with confidence. I have been very active over the last several years in state-level politics, and find I am most interested in what is going on in Arizona. My experience leading the Greater Phoenix Tea Party, as well as my time as a precinct committeeman has prepared me to hit the ground running next January.

Pro-life / pro-choice: I co-founded the Phoenix 40 Days for Life in 2007, and am committed to supporting legislation that protects life from conception to death.

One last thing: It is with strength and determination that I pledge my total devotion to our district and to the state of Arizona. I will serve with honor and with complete integrity, and will require that of my colleagues as well. Together we can recover our state’s economy, lower the unemployment rates, create jobs, increase tourism and attract businesses to our great state. I will defend liberty for all people, and will fight for Arizona’s rights and our constitutional rights as well. I am ready to serve the good citizens of Arizona!
