Yee, Weiers keep GOP in control in swing district

Democrat Jackie Thrasher finished a distant third behind Weiers, a former House Speaker. Yee was the top vote-getter in the district, and Democrat Aaron Jahneke came in last.
Thrasher was a Democratic hopeful to gain a seat in the swing district that takes in parts of north Phoenix and Glendale.
Thrasher was elected in 2006 and was considered enough of a threat that the Arizona Republican Party poured in $10,993 in independent expenditures and Arizonans For a Sound Economy spent $9,879 to oppose her.
The district has gained notoriety since ousted lawmaker Doug Quelland, who defeated Thrasher in 2008, was removed from office for violating Clean Elections laws.
Yee was appointed in July to fill the vacancy and ran as a slate with Weiers. Quelland also ran in the primary but was defeated by the pair.
