U.S. Senate Race
- Incumbent: John McCain (R) first elected to the Senate in 1986.
Challenged from the right by talk-show host and former Congressman J.D. Hayworth, John McCain spent in excess of $21 million to win his primary. He still has plenty left over to do battle with former Tucson vice-mayor Democrat Rodney Glassman, who won a 4-person primary. Glassman received 34 percent of the vote; while second-place finisher Cathy Eden, a former state agency director and county manager, got 26 percent.
