The Congressional hearing on illegal immigration taking place in Yuma today is part of a strategy to postpone the implementation of a viable solution, Governor Napolitano said this morning.
“I think these hearings are a delay tactic,” she told reporters. “I don’t think they’re helping to resolve the issue. Congress needs to get in a room and negotiate a bill… These hearings to me are simply political events. If you [Congress] haven’t heard from America now about a broken system, you’re just not listening.”
Tomorrow, the governor will travel to the border town of San Luis to visit the 50 members of the Kansas National Guard with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of that state, a trip she said was not political in nature.
“We are commanders-in-chief of the Guard. As long as they’re in the state, I am technically in charge of their mission,” Ms. Napolitano said.
