Pizzeria Bianco has appeared on just about everybody’s “best of” list. And for good reason — the food. In fact, the book “Pizza: A Slice of Heaven” (Universe Publishing, 2005) ranks the pizza served up by owner Chris Bianco as the best in the nation. Take that, New York!
If you’re on a diet, don’t come here. While you’re grazing a farmer’s market salad made fresh with red wine vinaigrette, you’ll be wistfully eyeing your partner’s Wiseguy pizza, which comes layered with wood roasted onion, house smoked mozzarella and fennel sausage.
The pizzeria, which opened its doors in 1993, is even housed in a space reminiscent of an Italian bistro, the red brick ambience of the former Baird Machine Shop. The building was constructed in 1929, and was moved to its present location at Phoenix’s Heritage Square alongside such treasures as the Rosson House and the Silva House.
Also, arrive early: it’s often difficult if not impossible to get a table. And don’t forget Bianco’s newest eatery, Pane Bianco, at 4404 N. Central Ave. Pane Bianco serves up deli sandwiches like tuna garnished with red onion, gaeta olives, lemon and argula.
