Napolitano signs budget into law

The budget approved by the Legislature June 19 has been signed by the governor, who lauded it for meeting many of the goals she set for the state in her annual State of the State speech in January.
Gov. Janet Napolitano said in a prepared statement that the budget reflects her goals by investing in education, innovation and infrastructure.
“This is a good budget,” she said, “because it keeps our focus exactly where it needs to be for a state that’s growing as fast as we are.”
Among other things, the $10.6 billion budget includes money for teacher raises, funding for the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, $100 million over the next four years to grow Arizona’s research institute and $500 million for accelerated highway construction.
Napolitano negotiated the budget with House and Democrat leaders from both the House and Senate.
