Arizona’s unemployment rate rose a half percentage point in July to reach 9.2 percent.
The state’s seasonably adjusted unemployment rate remains just below the national jobless rate, which was 9.4 percent in July.
Eight of the state’s 11 economic sectors suffered job losses. The biggest losses came in government and the hospitality industry.
In the past, economic officials in Arizona have said they believe the state’s unemployment rate will eventually hit 10 percent.
Arizona saw double-digit unemployment rates during the 1975 and 1982 recessions.
