LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City owes fired City Manager Richard Kaffenberger more than $200,000 in retirement, vacation, “termination” and other pay.
City Human Resources representative Shirlee Palbicki says the amount will be paid immediately.
Kaffenberger was fired on a 4-3 vote during a special City Council meeting on Oct. 20. His employment contract was set to expire next September, and Kaffenberger had said he did not plan to seek a renewal.
Kaffenberger was criticized for his management of personnel matters but he took heat from nearly every Council member for trying to award a $1.9 million contract to change managers of the wastewater system expansion program in midstream.
City public information officer Charlie Cassens was tabbed as interim manager.
