The window is closing for Gov. Jan Brewer to bring lawmakers back to the Capitol for a special session before Thanksgiving, but the two sides still haven’t agreed on exactly what issues they will deal with.
Speaking to reporters today, Brewer said she has been ready for a special session since September and said she is waiting on leadership to get her a head count. “It’ll probably be a real quick session, and we can go in and we can do some cutting and we can get those agencies that are in need of funding, and hopefully address some kind of revenue enhancement. I still believe that we need all three of those in order to get our handle on the budget that we’re facing,” she told our reporter. On the Dems preferred method of revenue enchancement – an expanded sales tax base – Brewer was noncommittal but suggested she hasn’t ruled it out. “There’s been some discussion with regards to that during the sessions, and I think when we move forward people are still interested possibly in addressing that issue. I certainly haven’t taken a position,” she said.
