State Sen. John Huppenthal ruffled some feathers in the state GOP and drew the ire of the Saguaro High School administration after he drilled holes in the school auditorium’s wall Friday morning to hang his massive campaign banner.
The SPI candidate wanted to hang the eight-by-24-foot vinyl banner on one of the side walls of the room, and had enlisted a maintenance worker to aid him in drilling small holes in the wall so he could fasten the campaign piece. But when a maintenance supervisor saw what was happening, he stopped Huppenthal and notified the principal, who in turn contacted state party officials. Huppenthal, it seems, didn’t follow the procedure every other candidate did by not delivering his banner to GOP headquarters by Thursday.
