Owen “Buz” Mills has been a mystery since he began testing the gubernatorial waters, but the Republican businessman provided a first glimpse into his campaign Jan. 25 when he launched his new Web site.

Mills, a National Rifle Association board member who owns the Gunsite Academy, was largely unknown, even to most Capitol insiders, when he filed an exploratory committee in December. He has kept a low profile and is not yet speaking with the press.

A video on the site, www.buz4gov.com, promotes Mills as “the strongest conservative running for governor,” and proclaimed him as a candidate who would oppose tax increases, cut spending, secure the border and promote pro-life values. The video also focuses largely on his track record as a businessman who has run numerous successful communications companies.

“I believe in fiscal responsibility, limited government and more freedom for all of us. I’m not a politician. I’m a businessman that delivers and expects results. I know how to create jobs and get our state working again,” Mills said in the video.

Prior to launch of the Web site, Mills had been known primarily for writing a $2 million check to his campaign. Campaign manager Camilla Strongin said the infusion of cash is an indication of how serious Mills is about his run for the Ninth Floor.

Mills’ Web site lists a public schedule that includes campaign appearances at the Prescott Kiwanis Club and the Yavapai GOP Men’s Club.

Mills is one of several Republicans seeking to wrest the GOP nomination from incumbent Gov. Jan Brewer. Also challenging Brewer are state Treasurer Dean Martin and former Arizona Republican Party Chairman John Munger.
