Miranda to run for House
Sen. Richard Miranda, a Democrat from Tolleson, will run for the House this year.
Miranda cannot seek re-election to the 30-person chamber because he has reached his term limit.
Miranda said he will make his candidacy for the House official on Feb. 9 when he files his campaign paperwork.
Miranda has several goals for the coming years.
He said he wants to make sure a Latino person becomes a member of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission. A new commission will be formed in early 2011 for the next redistricting cycle.
“I want to make sure that Latino communities are protected as communities of interest,” Miranda said, referring to the next legislative redistricting cycle.
Miranda, who first joined the Legislature as a representative in 1999, will have served his district for 12 years by the end of his Senate term. Miranda is co-chairman of the Arizona Legislative Latino Caucus.
