Verschoor officially enters race for state treasurer
Sen. Thayer Verschoor, a Republican from Gilbert, is an official candidate for Arizona state treasurer.
Verschoor’s Feb. 14 announcement did not come as a surprise. He told the Arizona Capitol Times last year about his plans to run for the Treasurer’s Office.
Verschoor joins a crowded field of candidates for the office.
Sen. Barbara Leff, a Republican from Paradise Valley, has opened a committee to run for the position. Also in the hunt are Republicans Doug Ducey and Ted Carpenter.
Andrei Cherny is the only Democratic candidate for the office. Cherny is a former Arizona assistant attorney general under Terry Goddard and a former White House aide in the Clinton administration.
