Giffords pushes for new Nogales fence

Nogales is not in the congressional district of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Nevertheless, the congresswoman is seeking $3 million in federal funds to replace a downtown Nogales border fence.

In filing her request with the House Subcommittee on Homeland Security, Giffords cited security risks posed by the landing-mat fence, which has stood in downtown Nogales since the early 1990s.

U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., represents Nogales in Congress. He called Giffords’ request a political response that sounds like overkill and wishes Giffords had consulted with him before making the request.

Grijalva told the Nogales International he wondered why Giffords hadn’t made a similar request to replace existing fencing in downtown Douglas, which lies within her own congressional district.

One Response to “Giffords pushes for new Nogales fence”

  1. Joanne Says:

Nogales is NOT where rancher Rob Krentz was murdered two weeks ago. Nogales is NOT where Giffords met with ranchers and citizens at Apache School to listen to their concerns about the thousands of illegals that use the San Bernardino Valley as their own “shopping center” in citizens homes as they carry drugs into the US. Nogales is NOT where the she expressed outrage at the Feds for not securing the border.

BUT she has proudly requested $73 million in earmarks for HER district NONE of which will do anything to curb the violence along the border or the threats to American citizens and our properties. Giffords is nothing but interested in her own re-election and like all the other politicians in DC the trash, drugs, and danger are NOT on her property so she is nothing more than a talking head and no substance. FIRE her in November and pray that no one else is murdered in HER district the mean time.
