Panel to recommend county attorney replacement

A citizens’ committee that’s vetting applicants for the vacant Maricopa County attorney’s post is expected to make its recommendations to county officials on Thursday.

The Board of Supervisors is expected to meet Friday to consider the panel’s recommendations on replacing former County Attorney Andrew Thomas.

Thomas resigned last week to run for state attorney general.

It’s unclear whether supervisors will appoint a new top county prosecutor on Friday or whether they will do so next week.

Thirteen people have applied to become county attorney, including former County Attorney Rick Romley and current Chief Deputy County Attorney Phil MacDonnell, who is running the office until a replacement is picked.
