Game and Fish eyes Northern Arizona shooting range site

The Arizona Game and Fish Department may finally choose a site for a shooting range in northern Arizona.

The department’s commissioners will consider buying the 160-acre Foster Ranch in Coconino County as a shooting site on Saturday. The ranch is less than 10 miles southeast of Flagstaff near the Walnut Canyon National Monument,

Department staff is recommending the purchase. The ranch appraised at $1.1 million in December.

If they buy the acreage, and a range is built, it will end a yearslong effort to set up a shooting range in northern Arizona. Numerous sites have been abandoned over the years because of concerns raised by potential neighbors or problems acquiring the land.Game and Fish eyes No. Ariz. shooting range site
