Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will travel to Washington next week to meet with other governors serving on a council appointed by President Barack Obama.
Brewer spokeswoman Kim Sabow says at least some of the governors and other state officials will meet privately to prepare for a July council meeting.
Obama created the council earlier this year, well before Brewer’s signing of an immigration law that Obama has criticized.
Sabow says she doesn’t know topics to be discussed, but Obama has said he wants the governors to offer advice and information on topics related to the National Guard and homeland defense.
Other council members are governors of Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
