Governor’s debate: GOP candidates square off

UPDATE: 6:15 P.M.

Brewer and Martin spar over each other’s records. Martin hits her for raising property taxes, while Brewer hits back over Martin’s votes for former Gov. Janet Napolitano’s budgets. Both say the other distorted their records. “We have to be truth tellers tonight, Mr. Martin,” Brewer said. Martin responded: “I think if you’re going to tell the truth, tell the whole truth.”

UPDATE: 5:50 P.M.

Brewer tells Mills he still hasn’t put forth a plan for a balanced budget, he responds, “You have not come out with one either. That’s your job, not mine.”

UPDATE: 5:30 P.M.

GOP gubernatorial candidates Gov. Jan Brewer, Matt Jette, Dean Martin and Buz Mills, are getting settled in for the debate at KAET-TV Channel 8 studios in downtown Phoenix and chatting with moderator Ted Simons before the debate, joking about how they have to compete for viewers with President Obama and the Lakers-Celtics game. Brewer laughs and says she’d rather be watching the NBA Finals. Simons reminds her, “It lives forever on the Internet.”
