Gov. Jan Brewer is blasting the White House after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told an Ecuadorian reporter that the U.S. Department of Justice plans to bring a federal lawsuit against Arizona over the state’s new immigration law.
“To learn of this lawsuit through an Ecuadorean interview with the Secretary of State is just outrageous,” Brewer said in a June 17 press release. “If our own government intends to sue our state to prevent illegal immigration enforcement, the least it can do is inform us before it informs the citizens of another nation.”
During the interview, a reporter for South American television station NTN24, a reporter asked Clinton what the Obama Administration thought about Arizona’s new law. Clinton responded by saying that comprehensive immigration reform remains a goal for the Administration, but also said legal action will come.
“President Obama has spoken out against the law because he thinks that the federal government should be determining immigration policy,” Clinton said. “And the Justice Department, under his direction, will be bringing a lawsuit against the act.”
According to media reports, the Justice Department has said they are still reviewing the new law, and would not confirm any legal action directive.[flash]//www.eyeblast.tv/public/eyeblast.swf?v=XdaGQu2GSU[/flash]
