Maricopa County supervisors are deciding Monday whether the sheriff’s office begins receiving $2.4 million in racketeering and jail enhancement funds.
The board froze the sheriff’s office access to Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act funds and jail-enhancement funds amid concerns of possible misspending.
County officials said they took the action to better understand how the money was being spent.
Terms of the cash release include Sheriff’s officials asking permission from county administrators before spending it.
Before, Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office spent money from the fund without pre-approval.
