Most state agencies to be closed on Friday

Most Arizona state agencies will be closed on Friday as workers take an unpaid day off.

Sept. 17 is the third of 12 furlough days for state employees. The Legislature required the furloughs to save about $20 million and help balance the state budget.

The furloughs don’t apply to essential services such as prisons, the state hospital and the state police.
