Law firm that represented ex-prosecutor fired

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has fired the law firm that represents a former prosecutor in an Arizona State Bar inquiry.

The Arizona Republic says Wilenchik & Bartness P.C. was notified of the decision by a letter sent to its Phoenix office last week. The county attorney’s office claims the firm’s fees are “exorbitant” and the firm doesn’t have a county contract to perform the work.

Wilenchik & Bartness for months has represented Lisa Aubuchon, lead prosecutor in controversial cases that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and ex-county attorney Andrew Thomas lodged against county supervisors, judges and other officials.

Aubuchon was fired from her prosecutor’s job last month for conduct related to those cases. She has asked to be reinstated to her former job.
