Cities in eastern metro Phoenix are working on local laws to regulate the locations of medical marijuana dispensaries.
Gilbert’s planning commission is expected to make a recommendation to the Town Council in December. A vote is scheduled for January.
Mesa is expected to formally adopt its regulations in January.
The new voter-approved law to legalize medical marijuana in Arizona lets cities regulate the shops but they cannot prohibit them.
Teams of state workers will work to make sure the medical marijuana rules are in place by April.
About 120 medical marijuana dispensaries will be allowed around the state.
