Board to oversee solar installation in southern AZ

Pima County has given the OK to set up a solar energy standards board.

The Southern Arizona Solar Standards Board will oversee solar installation companies to ensure they’re following the best practices.

The board will work with solar installers, jurisdictions, financial institutions and electric companies to help streamline the process of solar installations, which are soaring in southern Arizona.

By establishing the board, the Pima Association of Governments is hoping to protect consumers from substandard installations.

A strategic plan is for the operation of the board is expected to be finalized by Monday in order to bring the plan to all solar installers in the region.

State lawmakers propose funding for Tucson shooting memorial

Three Arizona lawmakers from Tucson have introduced legislation that would provide state funding for the memorial commemorating the victims and the survivors of a mass shooting that targeted former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords.
