Gov. Jan Brewer says she’s going to resist cuts to education funding that would be deeper than those she herself included in her proposed budget.
Some Republican legislators are pushing for deeper cuts in funding for K-12 schools and higher education to help balance the next state budget. They say the state needs to right-size its budget by avoiding new borrowing and other strategies proposed by Brewer.
Brewer says she’s still learning about new legislative proposals that are being discussed in closed-door talks but says she plans to fight for education funding.
In Brewer’s words, “I will try to hold as fast as I am able to do.”
Brewer commented during a speech to a civic group in Mesa and afterward with reporters.
