Arizona House Democrats have a new whip.

The House’s minority chose Rep. Anna Tovar of Tolleson as their third-ranking leader.

Tovar replaces Rep. Matt Heinz of Tucson as whip. He stepped down from the leadership post, saying he wanted to devote more time to his legislative proposals.

Tovar is a former teacher who served on the Tolleson City Council.
