Monday deadline for Brewer to act on gun bill

 .

Monday is the deadline for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to act on a bill that would permit carrying guns on public rights of way at public university and community college campuses.

The deadline was set when Brewer received the bill on Tuesday following completion of legislative action the week before.

The bill applies only to rights of way though it originally would have allowed people with concealed weapons permits to carry weapons inside campus buildings, including classrooms.

The bill doesn’t define rights of way, but a legislative supporter said during debate that it would apply to campus streets and adjacent sidewalks.

Gun-rights advocates back the bill. University officials oppose it.
