Members of Arizona’s congressional delegation are applauding armed service members after the announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death.

President Barack Obama announced late Sunday that bin Laden was killed in a firefight with American forces in Pakistan.

In a statement, Sen. John McCain commended the president, as well as military and intelligence workers.

McCain said he was “overjoyed,” but he also cautioned that groups like al-Qaida remain a dangerous threat — a view seconded by U.S. Reps. Jeff Flake and Ben Quayle.

Bin Laden’s death comes months ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, orchestrated by al-Qaida.

Shortly after Obama’s announcement, the staff of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords posted a message on Twitter thanking military members.
