McCain ‘overjoyed’ that US got bin Laden

Members of Arizona’s congressional delegation are applauding armed service members after the announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death.

President Barack Obama announced late Sunday that bin Laden was killed in a firefight with American forces in Pakistan.

In a statement, Sen. John McCain commended the president, as well as military and intelligence workers.

McCain said he was “overjoyed,” but he also cautioned that groups like al-Qaida remain a dangerous threat — a view seconded by U.S. Reps. Jeff Flake and Ben Quayle.

Bin Laden’s death comes months ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, orchestrated by al-Qaida.

Shortly after Obama’s announcement, the staff of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords posted a message on Twitter thanking military members.
