Gov. Jan Brewer has declared a state of emergency retroactive to May 29 in Apache and Greenlee Counties in response to the Wallow Fire.

The declaration releases $200,000 from the Governor’s Emergency Funds to be used to fight the fire and aid recovery. It also authorizes the adjutant general to mobilize the Arizona National Guard to join in the fire suppression efforts if necessary.

To date, all costs due to the fire have been covered by the federal fire management assistance grant that Arizona has received, according to a statement from Brewer’s office.

Brewer has also called for the State Emergency Operations Center at the Papago Park Military Reservation to be activated as of 8 o’clock tomorrow morning. All emergency response will be coordinated out of the Center.
