Maricopa County elections officials continue verifying valid signatures on a recall drive of Senate President Russell Pearce.

The Arizona Republic reports the County Recorder’s Office has informally verified 6,067 of the 7,756 signatures needed to call a special recall election against the Mesa Republican.

County Elections Director Karen Osborne did not give a specific day and time the petitions will be finished because her office must double-check 3,123 signatures it already reviewed.

If enough signatures are valid, the secretary of state has five days to approve the results.

Then, Gov. Jan Brewer has 15 days to call an election.
