The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will continue to pay legal expenses for ex-County Attorney Andrew Thomas, who faces trial in September on allegations of ethical misconduct.

Thomas used the initial $100,000 allocated to his legal defense and asked supervisors for more money.

Thomas’ attorney Don Wilson filed a motion Tuesday to withdraw from the case, saying he had no assurance he would paid for his work.

The board decided Thursday to pass management of the matter to the county risk manager.

Wilson told The Arizona Republic on Friday that he’ll withdraw his motion and remain on the case.

Thomas and two of his former deputy county attorneys were charged in December with multiple ethical violations by special prosecutors for the State Bar.

The State Bar licenses and polices attorneys.

Funny how the anti-government types always have a hand out for public cash when it’s convenient for them. Thomas should be paying for his own defense, he dug the hole, he should be the one paying to dig out.
