UofA interim president has $500K-plus contract

The University of Arizona’s new interim president stands to make more than $500,000 over the next year.

Eugene Sander’s one-year contract began July 1 and is set to expire June 30, 2012.

UofA President Robert Shelton will start his new job as the Fiesta Bowl’s executive director on Aug. 1.

For the first month of his term, Sander will serve as an assistant to Shelton and then take on the duties of president-designate while Shelton is on vacation.

As assistant to the president, the 75-year-old Sander will receive an annual salary of $300,000, to be prorated for the time worked. It works out to $25,000 a month.

The Arizona Daily Star says that on Aug. 1, Sander will become interim president. That comes with an annual base salary of $425,000.
