An initial court hearing is scheduled Friday in Maricopa County Superior Court on a case involving the scheduled Nov. 8 recall election for Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce.

Backers of the Mesa Republican filed a challenge Monday to the recall, saying flaws in petitions and other paperwork mean there aren’t enough valid voter signatures to force the election.
