Playground dedicated to youngest shooting victim

TUCSON — A playground built in memory of the youngest victim in the Jan. 8 Tucson shootings is set for a dedication Saturday morning.

The Christina-Taylor Green Little Hands Playground is at Mesa Verde Elementary School, where Christina was a third-grade student.

The Arizona Daily Star reports Saturday’s ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and will incorporate Christina’s classmates.

Children from the school chose a butterfly image as the playground focal point, since Christina loved butterflies and frequently drew them in her artwork.

Nine-year-old Christina Green was a member of the Mesa Verde Student Council. On the day she died, she’d gone to a northwest-side supermarket with a neighbor in hopes of meeting U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and talking to her about a career in politics.
