As a "Mormon" I am disturbed by the way Mr. Lewis, Mr. Montague and Mr. Williams used LDS Church contacts and facilities in a way that may not violate the letter of the Church's policy on political neutrality, but it certainly violated the spirit of it. I'm sure that they have rationalized using the Church's organizational structure, targeting local leadership and using church facilities to promote Mr. Lewis' candidacy and platform as being appropriate under the circumstances; just another political tool, a means to an end.

From LDS.org on Political Neutrality:

"The Church does not:
•	Endorse, promote or oppose political parties, candidates or platforms.
•	Allow its church buildings, membership lists or other resources to be used for partisan political purposes.
•	Attempt to direct its members as to which candidate or party they should give their votes to. This policy applies whether or not a candidate for office is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

It appears that for political expediency, he used poor judgment. Now that he won the election, I wonder how we can trust his judgment on other matters. Maybe I am politically naive, but it just seems wrong.

Excuse me, but this is a crock of bull. This campaign was mounted by lefties looking for a dupe and they found it in Lewis. I'm sure he's a great guy but this was not his idea and he was not the first one approached. While much was made of Olivia Cortes being a sham candidate, Lewis was just as much a sham candidate for the left wing, unions and other shady people.

I've volunteered on several Arizona citizen initiative measures that passed into law, despite being outspent by seemingly impossible margins.

Thanks to Arizona Capitol Times and Evan Wyloge for this piece, which illustrates the power of each individual in building successful community grassroots campaigns.
