New version of Arizona campus guns bill proposed

An Arizona lawmaker is renewing his fight to allow students and professors to carry guns on campuses.

An NRA-backed bill that Republican Sen. Ron Gould introduced late Monday would bar public universities and community colleges from banning people with concealed-carry permits from carrying concealed guns on campus grounds.

However, the legislation would allow the institutions to bar permit holders from taking guns into buildings if the prohibition is posted with signs and if a lockbox is provided in each building to store weapons.

Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a version of the bill last year, and Gould says he’s made changes in this year’s version to respond to Brewer’s stated concerns.

  1. Gould must be lobbying for a job with the NRA, they certainly own him.
