The Arizona House’s consideration of legislation to implement Gov. Jan Brewer’s proposal for a sweeping rewrite of the state government’s personnel system is now expected to take place late this week.
The legislation’s sponsor had said it would be considered today by the House. But the legislation is not listed on the House’s calendar for floor action today, a day when the chamber is devoting time to committee consideration of Senate-approved bills.
A tentative timetable calls for the House to consider the personnel changes legislation on Thursday. House passage would send it to the Senate.
It would make it easier to fire and discipline most state executive-branch workers and also give the governor hiring and firing authority over more agency directors.
