Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 8.7 percent in February as most sectors of the economy added jobs amid gradual improvement in the state’s economy.
State Department of Administration economists say seven of the 11 major sectors gained jobs, three lost jobs and one was flat.
Arizona had 42,600 more jobs in February than a year earlier.
Government accounted for over half of the additional jobs, mostly from seasonal gains in education. The biggest private sector gains were seen in the leisure and hospitality and in professional and business services.
The economists say the leisure and hospitality increase was the biggest since December 2006 and the gain in professional and business services the biggest since May 2007.
The trade, transportation and utilities sector had the biggest job losses.
