Brewer adds education board member

The state Board of Education is getting a new member and keeping a current one.

Gov. Jan Brewer has appointed Roger Jacks to the board and reappointed current member Amy Hamilton.

Jacks is superintendent of the Kingman Unified School District, while Hamilton is a first-grade teacher for the Mesa Unified School District.

Both will serve four-year terms. The appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.

Two of three Democrats running in the special primary election to replace former U.S. Rep. Trent Franks are facing lawsuits challenging their right to appear on the ballot.
