Senate to meet on Board of Regents nominees

State legislators will continue discussions of two appointments to the Arizona Board of Regents.

The state Senate Education Committee plans to hold a confirmation hearing Monday on the nominations of Dr. Ram Krishna of Yuma and attorney-lobbyist Greg Patterson of Scottsdale.

Gov. Jan Brewer nominated them both to eight-year terms on the board that oversees the state university system.

Krishna is an orthopedic surgeon, while Patterson is a former legislator and a former director of the state Residential Utility Consumer Office. Patterson is also known in political circles for his blog, espressopundit.com.

Their appointments are subject to confirmation by the entire Arizona Senate.

Krishna will replace former legislator Bob McLendon on the board, while Patterson will replace attorney Ernest Calderon. Their terms expired in January.
