The Pinal County Board of Supervisors is looking to appoint someone to replace Bryan Martyn, who recently accepted a position as director of Arizona State Parks.

Martyn’s last day as supervisor is Monday. He’s a Republican who was elected to the board in November 2008.

Martyn represents District 2 which includes Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, portions of Florence and a swath of unincorporated land in the Queen Creek area.

The Arizona Republic says supervisors met behind closed doors with a county attorney Wednesday for interpretation of state law on how to fill the vacancy.

According to the law, the board must appoint someone who’s of the same political party as the person vacating the office.

Martyn says he’ll recommend an appointee when the board meets Friday in special session.

  1. I hope that the board does not give a leg up to anyone who is now running for this position. Find someone who is willing to fill out the term and not run. Let the voters decided who should be elected to a full term in November.
