A judge has been assigned to preside over the U.S. Justice Department’s civil rights lawsuit against the Maricopa County Sheriff Office.

U.S. District Judge Roslyn Silver was randomly drawn as the judge to preside over the case.

A lawsuit filed by the Justice Department on May 10 alleges that Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s deputies racially profile Latinos in the sheriff’s trademark immigration patrols and that the sheriff’s office retaliated against critics of the patrols.

The sheriff has long denied the racial profiling allegations.

He says people are stopped if deputies have probable cause to believe they have committed crimes and that deputies later find many of them are illegal immigrants.

  1. I really hope that the Sheriff gets a fair shake in this lawsuit.
Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General needs to be sued for “fast and furious”

  2. KK(K), You need to listen to the months of daily hearings at the Arizona Supreme Court disciplinary hearings against the now disbarred ex-Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and his charging prosecutor, disbarred ex-DCA Lisa Aubuchon. Listen to the Sheriff and what others had to say about the abuse of power. It’s time for the sheriff to be indicted and sent to prison for what he has done to so many innocent people, families and children. There is a Constitution. The people have rights.
