Arizona’s secretary of state has no plans to look into Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s birthplace, despite requests from the public.

The Arizona Republic reports Secretary of State Ken Bennett said this week he will only inquire about Romney’s birthplace if law enforcement finds any reason to doubt its authenticity.

Romney released a copy of his Michigan birth certificate Wednesday.

Bennett says the certificate was sufficient to get onto Arizona’s ballot.

Bennett, who oversees the state’s elections, also serves as co-chairman of Romney’s Arizona campaign.

In the past two weeks, Bennett’s office received numerous calls both condemning and praising him for asking Hawaii officials for further confirmation that President Barack Obama was born there.

Some people are calling on Bennett to treat Romney the same and verify his birthplace.
