"Oh yay, yet another column full of false equivalence and “centrist” wankery."

Indeed. The author has no idea what secularism and atheism mean.

Let us not forget that this Country came to exist because religion and politics were in conflict. The Constitution forbids the state from imposing a particular religion on the people. By extension, the state can not IMPOSE on the people policies that are inimical to their religious beliefs.

Also, in case you hadn't noticed, the pro-choice movement has worked hard to promote things that actually are proven to reduce abortion, such as contraception and comprehensive sex ed, and has been fought against every step of the way by guess who? That's right, the so-called "pro life" movement is a lot more interested in policing women's virtue and pushing failed abstinence programs on young people than in preventing unplanned pregnancy and abortion.

Stephen, if you really think there's an "anti-clerical left" that is anywhere near as powerful and influential as the Religious Right you are clearly not paying attention and just making stuff up so you can write a column about it. And if you really think social conservative hostility to legal abortion and contraception is really about "life" I've got some beachfront property in North Phoenix to sell you.
