Tea Party McCarthy-like attacks sidetrack us from important issues

Arizona is a dream for comedians and political writers.
Unfortunately, the Arizona Capitol Times July 23 story “Tea party leader says all Muslims a ‘threat’ to U.S.; seeks recall of McCain” on Tea Party organizer Wes Harris wanting to ban all Muslims from working for the federal government and attempting to recall Sen. John McCain crowds out news on “normal” people (like myself) trying to run for office and offering ideas on how to improve the state.
Harris is an embarrassment to the state and one of the reasons why I decided to run for the Legislature. I’m tired of defending Arizona to those who hear these comments and think people like Harris speak for the average Arizonan. Here’s my response to Mr. Harris’ comments:
If Huma Abedin, deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is so loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood and is an extremist, why would she marry former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, who is Jewish? That would seem incompatible with Muslim orthodoxy, unless her marriage is part of some Muslim Brotherhood plot to make her look loyal to the United States. In addition, conservative Wisconsin Rep. James Sensenbrenner also said that Abedin had to go through a rigorous security clearance procedure by the U.S. government to obtain her position.
Representatives Michelle Bachmann and Trent Franks, two of the five Republican legislators who called for an investigation of Abedin, are loony like so many of the Tea Party fringe we have in Congress and the Arizona Legislature. If more Republicans would stand up to these fear-mongering politicians, maybe we would have fewer of them in our legislative bodies.
