David Berman who made the "status quo" argument in this article is not a Prop 121 supporter, but rather an independent analyst from the Morrison Institute.

The go-to talking point of the backers of Prop 121 is that opponents are in favor of the "status quo". Nothing could be further from the truth in my case. I oppose the measure because it continues and reinforces the status quo. It favors candidates with more access to money, who will tend to be Republicans in this state. Electing more Republicans, even if they are shiny happy polite ones, will not bring more funding for education, expanded health care access, a thriving solar industry, better transportation options, etc. If you want to move forward the solution is to elect more Democrats, If you want moderation the solution is to elect more Democrats. Most of the prominent Democrats in this state are moderates.
